Its functions are survival, stability, physical awareness, vigor, security, passion, trust and a person’s relationship with money, home and their job. Its energy is based on the earth element. It’s associated with the feeling of safety and grounding. It’s at the base of the chakra system and lays the foundation for expansion in your life. Its sanscrit name is ”muladhara” can signify “base”, ‘foundation”, “root support”
The body systems of this chakra are the digestive system, the excretory system, the muscular system and the nervous system. External physical properties include issues of strength and weaknesses of the feet and legs. The natural intuitive sense of this chakra is the sense of smell, which is the guiding factor in our relationships with other physical beings.
Connected with the root chakra are issues concerning the basic survival needs, such as food, clothing, shelter, money, employment, and independence.
Balancing this chakra provides the physical body with the unlimited energy needed to increase overall health through the qualities of courage and patience. An unbalanced root chakra is exhibited in self-centered, violent and angry behavior.
